Ron Rojas House

Situated in Key Biscayne, a vibrant island in Miami-Dade County, this residence was thoughtfully designed to harmonize with its subtropical surroundings. Central to the design are the pools, which anchor the living spaces, offering a sense of refreshing coolness amidst Miami's bright, intense light.

As you move through the house, the experience is ever-changing. The open-plan layout, enhanced by fully retractable glass doors, blurs the line between indoors and out, allowing the tropical air to flow seamlessly throughout. Designed by Rene Gonzalez Architect, the Ron Rojas House reflects the rich Latino cultural atmosphere of the area, incorporating Mediterranean-inspired elements like patios, portales, and louvered screens (persianas).

What truly sets this home apart is the thoughtful use of terracotta. The architects selected three distinct terracotta brick louver systems to add texture, warmth, and an organic feel to the design. Traditional horizontal patterns offer a timeless look, pivoting vertical panels provide dynamic movement, and solid bricks create bold, textural accents. These terracotta elements are more than just decorative; they play with light and shadow, creating a porous connection between interior and exterior spaces. The house itself is a series of interlocking volumes and voids, resulting in a spatial complexity that invites exploration and enhances the fluidity of the design.
